Assalamo Alaikum,
On the 4th of May i went to San Francisco to visit uncle Khaled and his family. He is my mother’s brother and i have seen him only once in my life before this time.. He was waiting for me in the airport and drove me home..
I spent almost three days there.. didnt get to see much of the city but i loved staying there. San Francisco is the most beautiful city i have seen so far.. i really loved it to a far extend. The city is ups and downs and hills. The buildings are gorgeous. You just need to walk around and you will immediately fall in love with the old city. It is known of the high percentage of gays!
Most of the time i spent with uncle’s family, his wife: Dalia, his son, Sammy, and his daughter, Diana
Diana calls herself “Princess Diana” and wants to be a butterfly when she grows up.. LOL she is only 4 years old.
Sammy and Diana, unexpectedly loved me. I usually dont get along with kids. I am not good with those clown faces or stupid acts to make children laugh. I dealt with them as if they were adults. Sammy cried on my departure.
Uncle drove me to San Jose airport where i flew to Houston and then to Baton Rouge on the 7th of May. There i found my aunt husband. Youssef. He i a technician of Nuclear Medicine in the hospital. He drove me home where i met my aunt Sama7, My mother’s half sister. Met her and her kids, Sommer, 15 years, Sharif 12 years, Sami 7 years and Sara 4 years.
Spent with them four days till i flew on the 12th which is today.. From Lafayette airport to Houston to Ontario Airport. Again, Sharif cried on my departure. Now i began to believe that i can have some influence on kids or young boys. That’s a good indicator.
In the airport i sat for an hour trying to figure out what to do! i called Mimi yesterday and asked her if i can stay in her house for the few days till i fly to New York on the 15th.. she welcomed me. Mimi finishes her work @ 5pm.. my flight arrived 10:30 am. so i had to think.. first how to reach la verne, the city where is her house.. and 2nd where to stay and what to do with my 2 big bags and one handbag. Tawakkalt 3ala Allah and decided to take a taxi. Taxi driver was a short african man. with a little beard and black rimmed glasses. Asked him about the ride cost and he said he will take $35 that was a good deal. I thought it would be around $50 at least. So i went in. When we started the ride, i noticed his key ring and found a card with his daughter’s photo and her name Saria Abusalih. knew hi is a Muslim so started talking. The man spoke Arabic. He is Sudanese mathematics teacher. Gave up teaching because it didnt pay well to save some money. It was just enough for living. Taxi driving was more worth it than teaching. We talked a bit about Egypt and Sudan and he got me home. He said that he knew that i am a muslim and this is why he offered me that price. When we reached home, the fare counter showed $43.00 the man knew it would be more than $35 but he wanted to give me a discount because i am a Muslim. Now i am in starbucks waiting for Mimi to come back from work and pick me up in her way home..
Few days and i will be back to Egypt. I hope i wont be culturally shocked . Although i know everything about Egypt and i expect all the changes, still, it is hard.
The next few days are supposed to hold different experiences. Who knows!?
